Sacrococcygeal Teratoma: Two Case Reports and a Review

Summary
- Sacrococcygeal teratoma is the most common congenital tumour found in neonates.
- It can be diagnosed on antenatal ultrasonography.
- Complete excision of the tumour is curative in benign cases and foetal surgery is preferably completed early in gestation.
- Complications of tumour haemorrhage, tumour rupture, or polyhydramnios, frequently precipitate foetal or neonatal death (as in the two cases reported here).
- Malignant teratomas have a poor prognosis and chemotherapy and radiotherapy in addition to surgery are indicated in such cases.

Two cases of sacrococcygeal teratoma the commonest neonatal neoplasm are described and discussed here on account of their interesting clinical presentation.
