Exercise in Menopause

  • Physical activity is beneficial to health and should be encouraged in women regardless of age.

  • Exercise programmes have a positive effect on menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes.

  • Low-impact exercise (e.g. walking) is effective in assisting maintainence of bone mineral density (BMD) after menopause.

  • Exercise can positively influence blood pressure and modify other risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as weight.
