Summary

  • Termination of second trimester pregnancy is associated with 3-5 times higher morbidity and mortality than that of first trimester pregnancy.

  • Patients undergoing second trimester abortion require careful monitoring, especially if more than one drug is used.

  • Uterine rupture is a rare event during second trimester abortion, particularly as in the case reported here in patients without recognised risks such as post-caesarean uterine scarring.

Editor's Comment

The occurrence of silent uterine rupture during a second-trimester abortion is documented in this case, despite the absence of high-risk factors. This highlights the need for careful monitoring in cases of second trimester abortion and also for readiness in re-evaluating clinical management.
