Intrauterine Insemination
Editors:
Gautam Allahbadia

TIntrauterine Insemination covers in detail the medical practice and laboratory aspects of a widely used treatment modality for many categories of infertility. The text is edited by a clinician well familiar and actively involved in intrauterine insemination (IUI) and sperm banking, who has also contributed several of the key chapters in the book. Most of the 34 contributors to the book are world recognised experts in their field, and the chapters have been well collated to provide easy access to specific areas. The 347 pages of text are enriched by comprehensive tables, multiple graphs and figures, and references for further reading.

The book is comprehensive in scope, beginning with the history of artificial insemination and concluding with two thought-provoking chapters on the role of IUI in the next millennium and the controversial issue of sex pre-selection respectively. In between is a wealth of material on topics including technical aspects of IUI, patient selection for IUI, and evidenced-based comparisons between IUI and other treatment modalities. Ultrasonography is also discussed in detail and there are several chapters which give a good outline of the clinical aspects of male factor infertility as well as a series of chapters on the technical aspects of running an andrology laboratory and an IUI programme.

Overall, Intrauterine Insemination is an excellent reference book containing a broad spectrum of up-to-date articles on the most relevant issues related to this important treatment modality. There is much to recommend in this book. It is well set out, easy to read, and contains current information. Unlike many textbooks of high-technology procedures, both the uninitiated and the experienced will find Intrauterine Insemination worthwhile reading. I believe this text will be a valuable asset to the library of laboratory scientists and practicing clinicians treating infertile couples.
