Summary

  • Fibroadenoma of the breast is a benign tumourous growth which most often occurs during the development phase of the breast.

  • Young women afflicted by giant fibroadenoma (> 5 cm) often present with breast asymmetry rather than a palpable mass.

  • FNAC is the preferred mode of investigation to confirm diagnosis.

  • Complete excision without mastectomy is the preferred mode of treatment.

Editor's Comment

This case of giant fibroadenoma of the breast in an adolescent girl is presented for two reasons: first for its interest value (the condition is relatively rare); and second to emphasise the benign course of this 'disease'.
